What we are trying to do: We are trying to put into actions the words that Jesus said: "Love your neighbor as yourself." In the first year we are looking for ways in which we can make a difference in our community. We have also started building relationships with many people that we have met on the streets. How? We offer a place (the 1304 House) where people can come by to shower, do laundry, have a meal and be cared for. We also go out and try to meet people we encounter on the streets. Mostly we are just trying to become friends with people. We try to connect people with other organizations that can be of further assistance to them. Why? We are seeking to love our neighbor in this endeavor. Our goal is to begin by building relationships and to seek God's direction. We know we've been called to care for the poor, for Scripture is extremely clear on this issue. We're seeking to discover what loving the poor looks like in Shoreline. Purpose Statement: The 1304 ministry provides the people of Shoreline Covenant Church opportunities for outreach, service and leadership development for the care and compassion to those in need in our community, as expressions of the Great Commandments (Mark 12:30-31). |
